Challenge
Integrien's team challenged us to re-envision their flagship software product, Alive, from a user perspective. Alive helps large IT organizations monitor the health of their infrastructure. The product's new UI was charged with simplifying vast amounts of data into simple, actionable visuals. The interface needed to visually communicate its value, which improves over time as data passes through the system. The UI also required a design appropriate for a diverse set of audiences, from C-level executives to extremely technical power users.
Process
- Best practice research across industries with similar challenges
- Stakeholder interviews across strata, from CEO to CSR
- Early concept testing with current and potential customers
- Deep collaboration with Integrien's tech team and customer-facing support
- Application architecture and detailed screen flows
- Visual Design and UI innovations to visualize giant data sets
- Command-line access and 3rd party integrations allow audiences to leverage Alive's benefits in their existing tools
- Web-based skin creation and integration support
- iPhone application concepting and design
Result
We brought early mockups of the Alive UI to a sales roadshow and tested our ideas with several existing customers and a few prospects. Not only were our ideas a big hit, but the exercise turned out to be a fabulous sales tactic, helping Integrien land some major clients. With user validation, we moved forward, finalizing the interface for Integrien's web-based application. We then extended the UI to an iPhone application for executives and technicians. Both products have garnered attention and accolades for Integrien, including Business Week's Award for International Design Excellence.
